Wednesdays On Tap (2016/9/28)

It’s been a little while since I visited Wednesdays On Tap at the Vernon Town Square, but I’m glad to see it’s still going strong.  I went last Wednesday and stayed pretty much the whole evening (5-7:30), partially on account of a gracious couple that gave me a bunch of extra tasting tickets on their way out.

This was this season’s 3rd event and there will be three more.  The whole thing culminates with Roseville’s Oktoberfest on Saturday the 22nd this month.  I must admit that I looked at the schedule and at the list of breweries and had to see what GoatHouse Brewing was all about since I’d never heard of them before.  The other brewers this week were:

  • Dragas Brewing
  • Great Basin Brewing Co.
  • Hoppy Brewing Co.
  • Knee Deep Brewing Co.
  • Lagunitas Brewing Co.
  • Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
  • The Monk’s Cellar

With my extra tickets I was able to try many different beers that I would have otherwise skipped.  Overall I pretty much enjoyed all the beers I had, with the one exception of The Monk’s Cellar’s Oktoberfest, which felt very flat, flavor-wise.  I really like the Monk’s Cellar too, so that was a surprising disappointment.

For food we had three options: Cowabunga BBQBella Familia Pizza and Jimboy’s Tacos.  I had never seen the Pizza truck before, and it’s quite a sight.  It looks like it was made out of a big shipping container built onto a giant truck chassis.  It is covered in windows on one side so you can see the whole kitchen, which is raised up a good 4 feet or so.  Inside they have a wood-fired oven and serve up fresh pizzas in about 15 minutes.

I ordered their Black & White (white sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms & black olives)[$10].  This pizza was incredible, particularly the fresh mushrooms which really carried a lot more flavor than I normally expect from mushrooms (and I love me some mushrooms).  The crust was perfectly done, crisp around the edges and underneath but soft within (at least at the edges where it was a bit thicker anyway).

There were a bunch of games for the kids (and adults) to play and everyone looked to be having a good time.  The entertainment was a band called NxtaKin and they were pretty good!  Check out my video up above for a song with some sights from the evening.
